Guests at Bear House Catskills are welcome to enjoy catch-and-release fishing in our private pond, right here on the property. It’s a peaceful way to slow down, spend some time outdoors, introduce the kids to fishing, or simply find a quiet spot by the water.
Bring your own fishing gear, choose a spot along the pond, and settle in. No reservations or elaborate plans required.
Whether you’re an experienced angler or picking up a fishing rod for the first time, fishing at Bear House Catskills is meant to be relaxed and low-key.
A few rules help us protect the pond, the fish, and our guests:
Catch and release only. Please return all fish to the pond promptly and carefully.
No swimming or wading in the pond.
Children must be closely supervised by an adult around the water at all times.
Please take all fishing line, hooks, bait containers, and other belongings with you when you leave the pond.
Fishing is for registered Bear House guests.
A New York State freshwater fishing license may be required for guests age 16 and older. Because requirements and exemptions can vary, please check the current New York State Department of Environmental Conservation regulations before fishing.

Morning coffee by the pond. A little fishing before dinner. An afternoon spent teaching the kids how to cast. Or maybe an hour sitting quietly by the water while everyone else is at the pool.
It’s one more way to enjoy the outdoors without ever leaving Bear House Catskills.
Bring a rod, find your favorite spot, and stay awhile.
